Entry Level Mathematics (ELM)

The ELM exam must be taken in the first semester of attendance and must be passed before enrolling in any GE Math course or preparation course. Students who do not qualify for the GE course must enroll in non-baccalaureate preparatory courses that will lead to permission to enroll in a GE course. Instructors may not waive the ELM to permit enrollment in courses. A list of exemptions from the test appears in the SJSU Catalog and Schedule of Classes. The ELM test is given three times per year with the EPT and by itself in December or January. Failure to take the test may result in Administrative Probation.
