What is Open University?
San José State University’s Open University program lets you enroll in regular curriculum university classes on a space-available basis if you are not enrolled at San José. Registration is easy – you can usually confirm your space in class at the first meeting.
Open University is a way to attend San José State University if you are not interested in a degree program at this time, but want to take one or more classes. It also allows you to earn credits while you wait for admission. Open University students responded to a survey that they were taking Open University courses for these reasons:
- to grow in their profession
- to enrich their lives
- to prepare for career change
- to seek a job promotion
- to give university life a try
As a participant in Open University, you receive credit for your course work. You may apply the credit toward a degree, within specified limits. Limitations are described in the Academic Information section in the paragraphs on undergraduate and graduate credit . Course prerequisites, if any, are indicated by a class note.
